A special concert is being held on Sunday 7 September at 3.00pm in support of a group of Australian women who are walking the Coast to Coast long distance footpath to raise money for the Multiple Sclerosis Society.
Some members of the 15-strong group have the neurological condition themselves and others are walking in support. They have already raised £70,000 for the Australian MS Society and hope that proceeds from the walk will further boost this figure.
The walking party will be breaking their 192-mile journey at Richmond – which lies roughly at the half way point of the route - and the Hambleton and Richmondshire branch of the MS Society has organised a concert at the Georgian Theatre Royal to honour their achievements.
The hour-long concert will be performed by Musicality – the talented Richmond-based ladies’ choir – and will include a mix of spirituals, arrangements of pop classics and songs from the shows. The Australian walkers will be in the audience.
Melva Steckles, a member of the Richmondshire and Hambleton Branch of the Multiple Sclerosis Society, said: “The Coast to Coast is a strenuous route for the most able of walkers but poses even more of a challenge for someone with MS. These are extraordinary women making an extraordinary undertaking. Please come along and show your support for their efforts and help the charity raise valuable funds for this very worthwhile cause.”
Tickets for the Musicality concert are priced at £5 each and are available from the Theatre’s box office on 01748 825252 or via the online booking service: www.georgiantheatreroyal.co.uk
