Congratulations to The Georgian Theatre Royal Youth Theatre who won the People's Award at the One-Act Play Festival that took place from Thursday 2 to Saturday 4 February.
This prestigious award for the best overall production of the Festival as voted for by the audience was presented to the group for their entry Sparkleshark - a contemporary play by Philip Ridley. Directed by Aimee Shields - with assistance from Ethan Hamilton-Sturdy and Jaime Gilpin -the play was in the tradition of 'In Yer Face Theatre' and featured bold characters, honest dialogue and situations which resonated with anyone who has ever been a teenager.
Daisy Chadwick and Will Newson were also nominated for the best actress and best actor awards and there were superb performances from the nine-strong cast.
The annual One-Act Play Festival is organised by the All-England Theatre Festival and is the only countrywide elimination contest for one-act plays in performance throughout England. Held at The Georgian Theatre Royal, this was one of the preliminary rounds of the Festival for the Northern Area.
