The Observer has named Sleeping Beauty as one of the best Christmas shows of 2018.
The Georgian Theatre's pantomime is one of 15 shows to be selected across the country and ranks alongside box office giants such as Matthew Bourne’s Swan Lake, Dawn French’s Snow White at the London Palladium and the RSC’s A Christmas Carol at Stratford.
“We are exceedingly proud to have made this festive A List,” said the pantomime’s writer and Theatre’s Chief Executive Clare Allen. “The Georgian Theatre Royal is well-known across the region for the exceptional quality of its pantomime but to have received such national recognition is a huge accomplishment.”
Sophie Campbell, a writer from The Telegraph, also travelled up from London to see the show and review the show:
“Loved this: tiny Georgian theatre full of shouting and laughter, nifty twist on the Sleeping Beauty story - with the theatre itself as the awakening princess - and a magisterial double act from the Dame and the Wicked Fairy (a theatre critic, what else?) Just what panto should be.”
Sleeping Beauty follows the plot of one of the world’s best-loved fairy tales with ‘panto-esque’ twists and turns and the usual mix of dazzling dance routines, catchy songs and family-based humour.
Sleeping Beauty runs from Friday 7 December 2018 until Sunday 13 January 2019. Tickets are priced from £9 and are available from the Box Office on 01748 825252 or via the online booking service on this website.
