The Georgian Theatre Royal is one of a number of Richmond tourist attractions that are opening their doors for free on Saturday 27 February.

The 'Love Being Local' day is aimed at people living in and around Richmond to remind themselves of the wonderful history and heritage that is on their doorstep. Other participating venues are The Green Howards Museum, Richmond Castle and Richmondshire Museum. The Station, which does not charge an admission fee, is also taking part in the initiative, with history and heritage information on display, and guided tours at 11am and 2pm.

“We want Richmondshire residents to come into the town and visit our attractions ahead of the  main tourist season,” explains Lynda Powell, Chair of the Welcome to Richmond group, which has created the Love Being Local event.  “With free admission, this is a great opportunity for people to visit our venues, have an excellent experience, and then tell their friends, family and visitors what’s on offer.”

Richmondshire residents will also be in with a chance of winning a prize hamper by completing a ‘Noted Locals’ trail round the five participating venues.

To gain free admission on the day, people should bring some documentation proving their Richmondshire residency.
