What did the Georgians do for us?

Posted on 08/08/2016 by Helga Pearson

What do wellington boots and flushing toilets have in common? Many of the objects that we take for granted today were invented in the Georgian period. Antiques expert David Elstob will be taking a closer look at some of them in a humorous presentation at The Georgian Theatre Royal on Monday 15 August at 7.30pm.

This is the first event in the town’s Georgian Festival (GeorgeFest16), which runs from 15 August to 2 September and David who is a valuer and auctioneer at Thomas Watson's auction house in Darlington will show why the Georgian era was a time of great innovation and technological advancement.

The talk will be followed by an open ‘roadshow-style’ session where members of the audience are invited to present their own antiques - from any era -  for valuation and discussion.

Tickets cost £9 (includes £1 restoration levy) and are available in person at the Box Office, by telephoning 01748 825252 or via the online booking service on this website.
