The world-famous baroque quartet – Red Priest – led by ‘superhuman’ recorder player Piers Adams and the devilish fiddler, Adam Summerhayes, transform into a wild ‘baroque gypsy’ band when they perform ‘Viva Baroque!’on Thursday 5th October at 7.30pm.

They re-live the extraordinary virtuosity of early Bohemian Baroque masters, explore melodies from a 1730 Slovakian fiddler’s tune-book, revel in the gypsy-influenced music of Telemann, and re-imagine music by Handel and the original Red Priest, Antonio Vivaldi – all in their own inimitable, high-octane style.

Red Priest is like no other classical group. Piers Adams acts as presenter, and dressed in crimson and black outfits, the group creates music with vivid drama, often at terrific speed and with tremendous skill and timing. Red Priest is the only early music group in the world to have been compared in the press to the Rolling Stones, Jackson Pollock, the Marx Brothers, Spike Jones and Cirque du Soleil!

Founded in 1997, and named after the flame-haired priest, Antonio Vivaldi, Red Priest has given several hundred concerts in many of the world’s most prestigious festivals, including the Hong Kong Arts Festival, Moscow December Nights Festival, Schwetzingen Festival, Prague Spring Festival, Bermuda Festival, and in most European countries, Japan, Australia, and throughout North and Central America.

The members of Red Priest are Piers Adams, recorders; Adam Summerhayes, violin; Angela East, cello; David Wright, harpsichord. The group has been described as “Superhuman” by The Washington Post and BBC Music Magazine said: “For sheer technical wizardry, charismatic showmanship, and expressive devilment, Red Priest is in an exhilarating class of its own.”

Tickets from £11 to £16 are available from the Box Office on 017480825252  or via the online booking service on this website.
