Volunteers in the spotlight!
Our volunteers are a wonderful group of people who work (and play!) hard to support the Theatre in so many areas. It would be impossible to exist without them. To celebrate their loyalty and dedication, we would like to focus on the individuals themselves and highlight the different roles they play.
All volunteers featured on this page have been ‘drawn out of the hat’ and we look forward to introducing them to you in the months ahead.
“I have been volunteering at the Theatre for six years but it has always been an important part of my life. I was born and bred in Richmond and not only remember it from when I was a little girl but I also brought my own children here to see shows, including their first pantomime!
I always fancied the idea of helping out ‘behind-the-scenes’ but during our married life my husband and I regularly lived abroad and, when we were based in Richmond, there was shift work to consider. However, when I found myself widowed seven years ago it seemed like a good way to keep myself busy and meet new people.
The Theatre is like a huge family and I enjoy spending time with the other volunteers (many of whom are now close friends), as well as interacting with the audiences and visitors. It’s a great atmosphere and I especially love pantomime time when the Theatre is full of the hustle and bustle of Christmas.
One of my main roles is ushering which is a great way to see a variety of shows. I also help out in the shop during the day and greet people who have come along for a tour. That’s always really interesting because we get people visiting from all over the world. It’s a real privilege to work here.”
