Set in the East End of London in 1866, Carrots is based on the life of Dr Thomas Barnardo. It was here that the "Good Doctah" first encountered a group of orphans, including the boy Carrots, living on a roof-top of a disused warehouse. Appalled by all the squalor, human misery and the social injustices of the time, he was determined to help the less fortunate and opened his first little school in a broken down stable in Stepney. Carrots is a story of compassion and the determination to succeed against all odds. Supported by the Heritage School of Dance, Stockton-on-Tees, this new adaptation premieres in Richmond. Starring local talent winner as Carrots! |
