Summer 2008

Museum Week

Monday 4th August - Friday 8th August
Time: On the hour 10.00am - 4.00pm

Museum WeekTake a trip back in time to sample the delights of the Georgian Theatre Royal as it looked and felt in its earliest days. Let our authentically dressed guides transport you to 1788 when candlelight lit the dark, and drama filled the empty nights.

Tour the theatre stripped back to its bare essentials - wooden benches without the comfort of backs and cushions and with only the candle chandeliers lighting your way. Visit the machine room to see stage traps and winches, and our guides will demonstrate how shutters and grooves were used to change scenery. Enter and pay at the tiny original 1788 box office!

A replica of Britain's oldest hand-painted scenery will be on stage for the whole week and the original will be on view in the museum.

Group tours can be booked in advance by contacting the Administration Office on 01748 823710 or emailing admin@georgiantheatreroyal.co.uk
