Be My Baby

Mary Adams is a typical young girl growing up in the 1960's with all the trivial worries of a teenager. Mary's life is about to change dramatically though as she must face her most serious worry of them all...she's pregnant. Teenage pregnancy at the time was highly frowned upon and so, sent by her mother, Mary goes to St Saviours, a mother and baby home that will care for them until she gives birth and hands the child over for adoption. There Mary meets three girls all in the same position as her. Accompanied by the girl-group songs of the period the girls share the stories of how they came to be in such a dilemma. Will Mary be able to hand over her child, a child that she is slowly growing to love?

A story driven by six very powerful female roles, Be my Baby cleverly intertwines comedy and a very poignant message that successfully demonstrates the contrasts between the teenage pregnancies of the 60's and those of the 21st century as well as getting you singing along to some 60's girl group classics.

Performed by the Georgian Theatre Royal Youth Theatre, winner of the one act play festival peoples award 2010
