It's 1599 and the first night of Henry V. Next door, at the Tabard Inn, much more important things are happening. Simon the musician tries to write a song that isn't "Greensleeves", Peter is painting a secret, Mac has just fought a bear, Jack, Matthew, Mark, Bella and Nick all went to see the play and got soaked, Nell wants someone to buy a drink for once (preferably with money), a mysterious clown keeps auditioning and all of them want a word with Sweet William the poet. On top of that, it's raining. All the time. Originally written for Northern Broadsides in 2005, the late Alan Plater's comedy about the life behind Shakespeare and his rude mechanicals is revived as a joint venture by the GTR Youth Theatre with the Swaledale Festival. Join the regulars at the Tabard Inn for an evening of tall tales, short purses, amazing exploits, songs and laughter. And rain. All the time. |
