Richmond Operatic Society is set to bring Stephen Sondheim’s dark musical masterpiece Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street to The Georgian Theatre Royal from 11 to 15 November at 7.30pm, with an additional 2pm performance on Saturday.
This spine-tingling production tells a chilling story of revenge, obsession, and grisly enterprise in Victorian London. Sweeney Todd, an unjustly exiled barber, returns to London seeking vengeance against the corrupt judge who destroyed his life. Teaming up with Mrs Lovett, the owner of a struggling pie shop, Todd’s quest for retribution soon takes a macabre turn — with shocking consequences for the unsuspecting citizens of Fleet Street.
Director Victoria Bennett said: “Sweeney Todd is a powerful story with incredible music and real emotion at its core. It’s bold, captivating theatre that draws you in from the very first moment. Stephen Sondheim once said, ‘Art, in itself, is an attempt to bring order out of chaos,’ and that’s exactly what this show does.”
Featuring some of Sondheim’s most hauntingly beautiful music, Sweeney Todd is a must-see for fans of musical theatre and gripping storytelling alike.
