Welcome to the Georgian Theatre Royal,
Richmond, North Yorkshire

Built 1788, closed 1848, reopened 1963, restored and extended 2003.
Founder member of Perspectiv, the Association of Historic Theatres in Europe.

Built by actor-manager Samuel Butler in 1788, the Georgian Theatre Royal was managed by Butler along with his circuit of theatres at Beverley, Harrogate, Kendal, Northallerton, Ripon, Ulverston and Whitby.

As Britain's most complete Georgian playhouse, we invite you to explore the theatre, its history and what's on offer. There is something for everyone: professional productions to suit every taste including music, comedy, drama, pantomime and dance; workshops and youth theatre classes, free events in the first floor bar on Mondays, and much more.

Enjoy your virtual visit and we look forward to seeing you at the Theatre!
