Free Theatre Tours for Richmond’s Heritage Festival

Step backstage with our free guided family tours on Saturday 13 September. Limited places – book now!

As part of Richmond’s Heritage Open Days Festival (12–21 September 2025), the Theatre will be opening its doors for a series of free guided family tours on Saturday 13 September at 1pm, 2pm and 3pm.

This is a unique chance to explore the UK’s oldest working theatre still in its original form and discover the fascinating stories behind the scenes. Visitors will step backstage, stand on the historic stage, and see the beautifully restored auditorium.

The tours are family-friendly and perfect whether you’re a first-time visitor or a regular theatregoer wanting to learn more about this extraordinary building. Our knowledgeable guides will share tales of past performances, famous actors, and the remarkable history of the Theatre’s survival.

These special tours are part of the national Heritage Open Days Festival, which celebrates history and culture through free events across the country. Richmond’s programme, organised by the Richmond and District Civic Society, offers an array of activities, from historic walks and talks to rare access to hidden sites.

Places are limited to 20 per session and booking is required. To reserve your free place, please email admin@georgiantheatreroyal.co.uk.
