Georgian Theatre Royal Ranks Among World’s Best Attractions for 2025

We take a bow as one of the world’s favourite attractions!

The Georgian Theatre Royal has once again been recognised as one of the top visitor attractions in the world, receiving a prestigious 2025 Tripadvisor Travellers’ Choice Award.

Based on consistently glowing visitor feedback, the award places the Theatre among the top 10% of attractions worldwide. Tripadvisor’s Travellers’ Choice Award (formerly the Certificate of Excellence) is its highest accolade, given to venues that earn outstanding reviews and ratings over a 12-month period.

Currently ranked number one of 30 ‘Things to Do’ in Richmond and boasting a 4.9-star rating based on over 500 reviews, the Theatre continues to impress visitors from across the UK and beyond.

“We are absolutely thrilled to have received this recognition,” said Jo Mawhinney, Chief Executive of The Georgian Theatre Royal. “It’s a real testament to the wonderful feedback we receive from our audiences and tour guests. We’re incredibly grateful to everyone who has taken the time to leave a review and share their experience.”

Jo added: “This award also reflects the exceptional efforts of our dedicated team of staff and volunteers. Their friendliness, knowledge and commitment are what make the Theatre such a welcoming and memorable place to visit – something our reviews mention time and again.”

Alongside a diverse programme of live performances, the Theatre offers guided tours that attract thousands of visitors each year. The Georgian Theatre Experience provides a fascinating insight into the history of Britain’s oldest working theatre in its original form, which first opened its doors in 1788.

Visitors can explore the intimate auditorium, backstage areas and dressing rooms on a guided tour, while the exhibition space includes the beautifully restored Woodland Scene – the UK’s oldest surviving stage scenery – along with a quirky collection of pantomime props from recent festive shows.

Tours run Monday to Saturday from 10am to 3pm, with the final tour beginning at 3pm. No booking is required – just turn up and enjoy a behind-the-scenes journey into the world of Georgian theatre!
