Homegrown talent returns to lead Georgian Youth Theatre

The Georgian Theatre Royal is delighted to announce the appointment of Lucy Booton as its new Youth Theatre Officer — welcoming a familiar face back to the stage where her theatrical journey first began.

Many local audiences will remember Lucy from last Christmas, when she took the title role in the Theatre’s pantomime production of Cinderella. Her return to Richmond marks a true full-circle moment.

Lucy first discovered her love of theatre as a member of the pantomime young company in Jack and the Beanstalk before joining the Georgian Youth Theatre. In 2018, she was part of the first Youth Theatre group from The Georgian to perform at the Edinburgh Fringe — an experience that helped shape her ambition to pursue a career in the arts.

After training at the University of Northampton, graduating in 2022, Lucy built her professional experience as an actor and assistant director, while also exploring directing, writing and stage photography.

Alongside her performance career, Lucy brings valuable teaching experience to the role. She has worked as a Poppets teacher (ages 4–6) at the Pauline Quirke Academy, supported primary schools as a Teaching Assistant, led after-school drama clubs where she wrote and directed plays, and provided one-to-one support for children with special educational needs.

Speaking about her appointment, Lucy said:

“The Georgian Theatre Royal is where my love of performing truly began. Being part of the Youth Theatre and Pantomime Young Company gave me confidence, skills and friendships that shaped who I am today.

“To now return as Youth Theatre Officer feels incredibly special. I’m so excited to support young people as they discover their own creativity and confidence on this amazing stage.”

In her new role, Lucy will work with members aged 6 to 18 across the Theatre’s Youth Theatre programme, delivering acting and musical theatre classes and introducing young people to all aspects of stagecraft.

The Georgian Youth Theatre runs classes for Juniors (6–11 years), Middles (11–14 years) and Seniors (14–18 years) during school term time. No previous experience is required, but pre-enrolment is essential.
