Step into the 1940s with Housewife At War – a moving and stylish journey through the lives of women in WW2.
The much-loved History Wardrobe returns to The Georgian Theatre Royal on Saturday 14 June with a brand-new presentation, Housewife At War – an engaging and insightful look at the everyday lives of women during the Second World War.
From doing the dishes to dodging doodlebugs, the two Lucys of History Wardrobe – Lucy Adlington and Lucy Ridley – take audiences on a captivating journey into the 1940s to uncover what their grandmothers were really up to during the war years. Whether it was home-baking and tea-making, or donning a uniform and stepping into wartime roles, this powerful show reveals the strength, humour and resilience of women on the home front.
As ever, the presentation is brought to life with fabulous period fashions, from Utility clothing to the glamorous post-war New Look. But behind the aprons and rank badges, and after the bunting of VE Day has been packed away, there are many secrets to uncover.
History Wardrobe shows have become a firm favourite at the Georgian Theatre Royal, blending history, fashion, and performance in an accessible and entertaining format. With their trademark wit and warmth, the Lucys combine storytelling, costume and research to deliver a show that’s as thought-provoking as it is enjoyable.
