Young artists shine in Cinderella pantomime competition

Young artists wowed judges with magical Cinderella-inspired creations in this year’s pantomime arts and crafts competition.

This year’s theme, Cinderella, inspired a colourful and inventive range of models, drawings and handcrafted artworks, with children showcasing both their artistic talent and their love of the Theatre’s much-loved pantomime tradition.

Jo Mawhinney, Co-writer and Director of Cinderella and Theatre Manager, said: “I am always amazed by the imagination and hard work that goes into these entries. Every year the standard is so high, and the level of detail and creativity from the children is truly remarkable. Judging is never easy! We are incredibly grateful to everyone who took part and helped make this year’s competition such a delight.”

She added: “Our pantomime is a real community celebration. Whether people come along to enjoy the show or get involved through activities like our knitting project or arts and crafts competition, it’s all about bringing people together.”

In the category for children aged six and under, the joint winners were Nellie (aged four) and Theodore (aged six), with Lucy (aged six) named as runner-up. In the seven and over category, Kelsey (aged seven) was awarded first prize, while Larna (aged nine) received the runner-up award. The Best 2-D Artwork category was won by Anna (aged 12), with Ethan (aged nine) named as runner-up.

All competition entries will be on display at the theatre throughout the run of Cinderella, giving audiences the chance to enjoy the creativity of young people from across the area.

The pantomime runs until Saturday 10 January 2026. Tickets can be booked through the Theatre’s Box Office on 01748 825252 or via the Theatre’s website.
