Dame Eileen Atkins - one of Britain's most accomplished and decorated actresses - will be sharing her experiences of life on stage and screen on Easter Sunday at 3-30pm.

The actress - known to many for her BAFTA award-winning role as Deborah Jenkyns in the popular television series Cranford - will be in conversation with Richard Digby Day, the world-renowned stage director and international lecturer in theatre and dramatic art.

It is the last in a series of three events in aid of the Georgian Theatre’s fundraising appeal that also included appearances by fellow acting legends Geraldine McEwan and Edward Fox.

Eileen Atkins has worked consistently in theatre, film and television since 1953. She joined the Royal Shakespeare Company in 1957 and made her Broadway debut in the highly acclaimed 1966 production of The Killing of Sister George. Film roles have included Jack and Sarah (1995); Gosford Park (2001); and Robin Hood (2010). She has just finished a run at Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre for her one-woman show on Ellen Terry, the famous 19th century Shakespearean actress.

As well as her many and varied acting roles, Eileen Atkins is also known for her considerable writing talents which enabled her to create unforgettable television such as the popular Upstairs Downstairs series and The House of Elliot. Her major acting awards include a BAFTA, an Emmy and three Olivier’s. She was awarded a CBE in 1990 and a DBE in 2001.

Eileen Atkins is no stranger to the Georgian Theatre Royal and she and Richard Digby Day will no doubt recall her time with Prospect Theatre Company when she appeared in Vanburgh’s The Provoked Wife at the newly re-opened theatre.

The event on Sunday 20 April will be followed by tea and scones. Tickets are priced from £10 to £25.
