We are delighted to announce that Clare Allen has been appointed as the Theatre’s new Chief Executive Officer. Clare will take over from the current Chief Executive, Warnock Kerr, on Tuesday 1 September 2015.
Clare Allen has a long-standing commitment to theatre and has worked in a variety of locations. After undertaking her BA degree in California, she obtained an MA in Performance at Goldsmiths College, London. She then founded and ran a village theatre in Ghana before establishing the English Theatre of Bruges in 2007. This venue in a 15th century building reinforced her interest and commitment to both theatre and historic buildings.
Clare then worked as the Artistic Director/General Manager of The Mart Theatre in Skipton before taking up her current appointment as General Manager at Stratford ArtsHouse. Like The Georgian Theatre Royal, this is a registered charity and Clare has had responsibility for strategy, artistic development, event bookings, financial management and overseeing the general operation of the venue with a small staff team.
Chairman of the Georgian Theatre Royal Trust, Malcolm Bryant said: “We are delighted that Clare will be joining The Georgian Theatre Royal and feel sure that her professional skills, experience and personality will make a big contribution to the development of this unique and magical venue.”
Commenting on her new appointment, Clare Allen said: “It is a true privilege to be taking on this role at such a beloved, magnificent theatre, and to build on the strong foundations that Warnock Kerr, the staff, volunteers and trustees have put in place. I cannot wait to begin work within such an exquisite setting and, equally, to reside in the gorgeous town of Richmond.”
