Georgian Theatre Royal wins 2024 Tripadvisor Travellers’ Choice Award

Thanks to hundreds of fantastic reviews, The Georgian Theatre Royal has been recognised amongst the top 10% of things to do worldwide by the independent travel site Tripadvisor.

The Travellers’ Choice award (formerly Certificate of Excellence) is the highest honour Tripadvisor can bestow and is based on reviews and ratings collected over 12 months. Only the top 10% of listings on the site qualify for the award.

The Georgian Theatre Royal, currently enjoys a coveted 5 star rating on Tripadvisor based on 500 reviews and is ranked first amongst 29 ‘things to do’ in Richmond.

“We are delighted to have been selected as a Travellers’ Choice award-winner,” said Jo Mawhinney, Chief Executive of the Georgian Theatre Royal. “It’s excellent customer feedback that has made it possible to score a spot at the top and we would like to thank all our visitors for taking the time to share their opinions and voice their appreciation.

“The accolade is also largely due to the hard work of our many volunteers and staff whose dedication and enthusiasm make the Theatre such a special place to visit. The reviews repeatedly highlight their courtesy, expertise and friendliness, which are essential to visitor enjoyment and satisfaction,” she added.

As well as hosting a full programme of live events for all tastes and interests, the Theatre offers guided tours that attract around 3,500 visitors a year. As one of the region’s most popular visitor attractions, The Georgian Theatre Experience tells the fascinating story of the Theatre from its beginnings in 1788 and gives a unique insight into everyday life in Georgian England.

The visit includes a full guided tour of the auditorium, dressing rooms and stage, as well as access to the exhibition area, which features the recently restored Woodland Scene – Britain’s oldest surviving stage scenery painted between 1818 and 1836. More recent exhibits include a selection of pantomime props that many local people will recognise from recent festive productions.

Tours run Monday to Saturday from 10am until 3pm with the last tour leaving at 3pm.
